New Delhi: The latest analysis of the COVID-19 situation by scientists suggests that the peak of the third wave in India will be reached on January 23, but the daily case count is unlikely to cross 4 lakh. The source model of the COVID tracker said that Delhi, Mumbai have already reached their peak in the second week of January.
IIT Professor Manindra Agrawal, one of the researchers at the Sutra Sangh, who has been working with the Covid numbers since the beginning of the pandemic, said the trajectories are changing across the country. There could be two reasons for this: One, the spread of Omicron has slowed down in people with low immunity.
Giving a state-wise picture of the peak of the ongoing third wave, the model revealed that Mumbai had reached its peak on January 12 and the numbers are now declining rapidly. Delhi was at its peak on January 16 and Kolkata on January 13. Bengaluru will reach its peak on January 22. As per the finding, Maharashtra, Gujarat and UP are expected to reach their peak on January 19, Assam on January 26.
“Hospitalization is very low. I understand that in Uttar Pradesh, less than 1% of cases require hospitalization,” said Professor Agarwal.
India on Tuesday reported 2.38 lakh cases, continuing a fall in daily cases after hitting an all-time high of 2.6 lakh a few days ago.
Delhi officials are hinting at the plateau, as the national capital has seen its daily cases stabilize. On Tuesday, Delhi recorded 11,684 new infections and on Monday the 24-hour tally stood at 12,527. On January 13, Delhi reported 28,867 Covid cases, the sharpest spike in a single day.
