New Delhi: Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday took a dig at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s candidature for the upcoming assembly elections from his home constituency of Gorakhpur.
Starting his press conference in Lucknow, Akhilesh Yadav said, “Now that he is contesting from Gorakhpur City seat, he can stay there”.
Gorakhpur is a well-known political ground for the Chief Minister, from where he was elected to Parliament for five consecutive terms and from where he made his second identity as the head priest of the Gorakhnath Math.
Akhilesh said, “This time Samajwadi Party will win all the assembly seats in Gorakhpur. Imagine the CM who couldn’t run metro in his own city, couldn’t put sewer line in his own city, this time people of Gorakhpur got him a lesson. Will teach. Today BJP has sent him home, now people will keep him at home.
Speaking about the much publicized picture of the Chief Minister’s ‘khichdi’ at a Dalit man’s house, the SP leader said, “Didn’t you see how he ate it completely out of heart… Anyway, for him it was. It’s time to eat khichdi.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its first list of candidates for the first two phases of the seven-phase election. Apart from Adityanath, the BJP said that Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya will contest from the Sirathu assembly constituency of Prayagraj.
Regarding the notice to the Samajwadi Party office from the state police over the overcrowding due to the pandemic and the violation of election guidelines, Yadav said, “I ask all the leaders and workers to follow the MCC and COVID protocols, otherwise all of them.” The SP can be victimized in places where it is stronger.”
He said, “I was not even aware that Section 144 (CrPC) was imposed inside the SP office premises. Also, I was not aware that the virtual rally was being violated. I thought that There will be some leaders on the mic in the state. Some front (audience) and further events will be telecasted online in different districts, we will be careful from now on.”
