New Delhi: The address of Amar Jawan Jyoti, which has become the identity of India Gate for 50 years, has changed. Amar Jawan Jyoti has been merged into the flame of the War Memorial. The Amar Jawan Jyoti Jwala, a symbol of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, has been merged with the National War Memorial Jwala today. The ceremony was presided over by Air Marshal Balabhadra Radhakrishna. Amar Jawan Jyoti was taken to the War Memorial with full military honors with a torch.
The Amar Jawan Jyoti was merged into the National War Memorial to mark the completion of 50 years of the 1971 war with Pakistan. The names of about 26000 soldiers who were martyred in the National War Memorial are inscribed.
Before this, the opposition tried to surround the government by making it an issue. Congress termed the decision to shift the flame of Amar Jawan Jyoti to the National War Memorial as an insult to the martyrs. Countering this controversy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that a statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose will be installed at India Gate.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has given information about this by tweeting. He wrote in his tweet that at a time when the whole country is celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, I am happy to inform that his grand statue made of granite will be installed at India Gate. This would be a symbol of India’s indebtedness to them.
Significantly, Amar Jawan Jyoti was established in the memory of the Indian soldiers who were martyred in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. India was victorious in this war and Bangladesh was formed. It was inaugurated on 26 January 1972 by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
