At the same time, India had to face defeat by nine wickets in the Port Elizabeth Test match.

The Indian team went to South Africa in 1996-97 under the captaincy of Sachin Tendulkar. India had to face defeat 0-2 in the three-match Test series. After this, in the year 2001-02, the team went to South Africa under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. During that time, India suffered a 0-1 defeat in the two-match Test series.

Later in the year 2006-07, under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid, Team India went on a South African tour. Despite the lead in the series, the India team could not win the series. India lost 1-2 in the three-match series. India had the best performance in South Africa in 2013-14 under Dhoni’s captaincy. India performed brilliantly and drew the three-match Test series 1-1.

India went to Africa in 2017-18 before this series under the captaincy of current captain Virat Kohli. But the result of the Test series was not in favor of the team. The Virat Brigade had to face defeat in the matches in Cape Town and Centurion. Lost the series 1-2. This time Team India was expected to return after winning the series, but after winning the Centurion Test, it lost two consecutive Tests. The defeat of Johannesburg and Cape Town once again broke the dream of winning a Test series on African soil.
