Indian Army Day 2022, Indian Army Day 2022: Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January to honor the soldiers of the country who have set the biggest example of selfless service and brotherhood and love for the country is more than anything. Army Day is celebrated every year in all Army Command Headquarters. The nation pays tribute to the valor of the brave hearts on this day and thanks them for their selfless service.

India’s 74th Army Day is being celebrated this year. Military parades, military exhibitions and other programs are organized at New Delhi and all Army Headquarters on 15th January. On this occasion, the country remembers the valor of the army, their valor and sacrifices.

Why is Army Day only on 15 January?

Actually Field Marshal KM Cariappa became the first Indian Army Chief of independent India on 15 January 1949. This is one of the most important events in the history of India. That is why January 15 is celebrated every year as Indian Army Day. When Cariappa became the army chief, there were about 2 lakh soldiers in the Indian army at that time. Cariappa retired in 1953 and died in 1993 at the age of 94.

History of Army Day:

Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January. It was on this date in 1949 that the Indian Army got its first Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General KM Cariappa. General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army on 15 January 1949. He was the first Indian to be appointed as the Commander-in-Chief. He took over the reins of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India.

He adopted the slogan ‘Jail Hindi’ which means ‘Victory to India’.

He is one of only two Indian Army officers to hold the five-star rank of field marshal; The other is Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.

Cariappa led the Indian Army on the Western Front during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947.

Cariappa’s achievements

Cariappa led the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947. After retirement, he was given the rank of Field Marshal in 1986. Apart from this, he also received the honor of the Order of the British Empire for defeating the Japanese in Burma in the Second World War.

When was the Indian Army formed?

During the reign of Raja Maharajas, every ruler had his own soldiers, but the East India Company formed the Indian Army in the year 1776 in Kolkata. At that time the Indian Army was a contingent of the East India Company, which later got the name of the British Indian Army and finally the soldiers of the country were recognized as the Indian Army.
