In Junior Super Stars Season 4, which aired on Zee Tamil on January 15, child actors gave a satirical performance about demonetisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign tours, his attire and disinvestment. Angered by this, the Tamil Nadu unit of BJP asked the channel to apologize while taking the show off air.
Chennai: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has now issued a notice to Zee Entertainment after the BJP’s state unit objected to satirical remarks in a children’s show about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies.
The ministry has asked the channel group to respond to this complaint.
According to the Indian Express report, this notice issued on Tuesday is based on the complaint of CTR Nirmal Kumar, president of IT and Social Media Cell of BJP’s state unit.
In a complaint filed against the reality show ‘Junior Super Stars Season 4’, which is being aired on Zee Tamil, it has been said that objectionable remarks have been made against the Prime Minister in this program and he wants the show to be removed from the platform.
The popular event was telecast on January 15, hosted by Tamil actresses Sneha and RJ Mirchi Senthil and comedian Amudhavanan among others.
The program referred to the popular 2006 political satire film ‘Imasai Arasan 23 M Pulikesi’, in which comedian Vadivelu played a king in power under the control of the British, who despite major crises and famine in the country, luxuriates in luxuries. Lives a life of ease.
In this TV show, children also mentioned a king and his policy reforms, which did not succeed. In these policies, the policies implemented by the Modi government, demonetisation and disinvestment were mentioned.
In his complaint sent to the channel and the ministry, Kumar said, “Strict comments were made regarding demonetisation, Prime Minister Modi’s visits to various countries, Prime Minister’s dress and disinvestment. It is impossible for a child below 10 years of age to understand the meaning of these above topics.’
He had also said that these topics were discussed in the name of comedy. In the name of comedy, these subjects are being imposed on children.
The letter also complained that the anchors and judges of the show were promoting these comments.
“This sent a wrong message about the channel in Tamil Nadu,” the letter said. It is clear that the channel has made no effort to curb this misinformation being spread through children.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry said that they have received a complaint against the program aired on January 15. The channel has been asked to respond to the complaint within seven days, failing which further action will be taken.
Ministry officials in Delhi have confirmed that they have sought a response from Zee Tamil regarding the show but clarified that this is not a show cause notice nor does the letter state that the Cable TV Networks Act any provision of the
Sources close to the ministry said, “When they receive a complaint, they send it to the channel for response.” On receiving the reply, the ministry will consider whether any rule has been violated through the content of the show and if it is found then appropriate action will be taken.
Zee Group has to respond to this complaint within seven days.
Complainant Kumar said on Tuesday that the Zee management has assured that they will remove the part of the show which is in dispute from their digital platform.
“There has not been any official communication from the channel but they have told us that they will remove these parts and when they run the same show next week, they will present a scroll expressing regret,” he said.
