Prabhakar Mishra, New Delhi: Retired Supreme Court judge Indu Malhotra will oversee the committee formed by the Supreme Court on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s lapse in security in Punjab on January 5. The Supreme Court has asked the committee to file the report at the earliest. However, no time limit has been fixed by the court for this.
A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana had on January 10 stayed the ongoing probe by two separate panels of the Center and the Punjab government and said it would be headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to probe the incident. There will be a committee.
DGP Chandigarh, IG of NIA and Registrar General of Punjab and Haryana HC can be part of the inquiry committee.
The CJI said, “We are thinking along these lines… A retired Supreme Court judge will head the committee and the members will be DGP (Director General of Police), Chandigarh, Inspector General of NIA (National Investigation Agency), Registrar General of Punjab and One more person from Haryana High Court and Punjab and that could be additional DGP (Security).”
PM Modi’s convoy was stuck on the flyover for 15-20 minutes due to the blockade by protesters in Ferozepur on January 5. The PM had to return without attending any program.
