New Delhi: The National Security Guard (NSG) has said that the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) found last Friday at the Ghazipur wholesale flower market was destroyed one-and-a-half hours before the closure. Officials familiar with the matter gave this information on Monday in the forensic investigation report submitted to the Delhi Police.
Bomb experts detonated the explosive device in a controlled explosion in the market pit and collected samples of the explosives from the site for examination.
The NSG in its report said that according to officials, the IED from an unclaimed bag at the entrance of the flower market contained RDX and ammonium nitrate besides a timer device.
The NSG on Friday had indicated the presence of RDX, ammonium nitrate and shrapnel in the IED which was stuffed in steel tiffins and kept in black bags. A shopkeeper noticed it outside gate number 1 of the market at around 10 am. When the explosives were found, 4,000 to 5,000 people were present inside the market.
Delhi Police investigators have said that the black bag which contained the bomb did not have any identification mark like a tag or sticker of the manufacturing company.
“Investigators were expecting some clues from the bag as the manufacturing company tag was found in a laptop bag containing low intensity IED in Rohini court room on December 9 last year, prompting the investigation team to identify the suspect,” he said. and helped solve the case. However, there was no identification mark on the bag in the Ghazipur IED case.
Police said on Sunday that Mujahideen Ghazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), an al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group operating in Kashmir, has claimed responsibility for planting an IED in Ghazipur market. He said the group claimed on a Telegram group, where it also claimed that “technical glitches did not cause the IED to explode”. A second police officer said that the Telegram message was spotted by central agencies while monitoring social media and the information was shared with the Special Cell of Delhi Police.
“Our special cell officials are trying to trace the source of that Telegram message and establish the authenticity of the claim. It is a difficult task as the message has come through an encrypted channel.
