Pollution: Air in Delhi falls from satisfactory to medium category, Noida still in ‘poor’ category

New Delhi: According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the air quality in the national capital has dropped from the ‘satisfactory’ category to ‘moderate’. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city has been recorded at 193.

The air quality in the national capital was in the ‘moderate’ category for the past three days as the capital city and its adjoining areas received heavy rains in the last few days. The air quality in Gurugram has also slipped into the ‘moderate’ category with an AQI at 105, while the air quality in Noida has slipped to the ‘poor’ category. The AQI in the area stands at 211.

According to government agencies, AQI between zero and 50 is ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, And 401 and 500 are considered ‘serious’.

Meanwhile, the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, while the air quality was in the ‘poor’ category earlier this week.

He said the maximum temperature was recorded at 18.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal. The relative humidity stood at 78 per cent at 5.30 pm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted fog during the week.

“Dense fog will prevail on January 12 and 13. The maximum and minimum temperatures on Wednesday are likely to be around 19 degree Celsius and 8 degree Celsius respectively,” it said. According to the 24-hour AQI bulletin of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in Delhi was 224 at 4 pm, which falls in the ‘poor’ category.
