New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be on a three-day visit to Vietnam on June 8. On his visit, he will hold talks with General Fan Van Giang. “The project is significant in the context of growing defense industry cooperation with Vietnam and exemplifies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Self-reliant India’ and ‘Make in India, Make for the world’,” the ministry said.
Singh will begin his visit by paying homage at the mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh in Hanoi. Rajnath Singh will hold bilateral talks with Gen Giang and the two leaders will review bilateral defense cooperation and explore new initiatives to further strengthen military engagement, officials said, adding that the talks will cover regional and global issues of common interest. Singh is also scheduled to meet President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chin during his visit.
The ministry said their itinerary includes visits to training institutes in Vietnam, including the University of Telecommunications in Nha Trang, where an Army Software Park is being set up with a $5 million grant from India. The visit comes at a time when India and Vietnam are completing 50 years of establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. The two countries have a comprehensive strategic partnership since 2016 and defense cooperation is a key pillar of the relationship.
