Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav called for unity among all anti-BJP organizations and said that national parties should forget that regional parties are doing any harm to them. If there has ever been a loss to the regional parties, it has been done by the governments of Delhi.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said the Congress should support regional parties to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2024 general elections, calling for unity among all anti-BJP outfits.
According to Hindustan Times, Akhilesh Yadav said, ‘Many regional parties are heavyweights in their respective states, who are fighting strongly against the BJP. All these regional heavyweights fighting against the BJP should come together.
He said, ‘Congress should support the respective regional parties in different states. Now the time has come for Congress to put forward regional parties and support regional parties to defeat BJP.
Akhilesh Yadav’s statement comes a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha following his conviction by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case.
Yadav said, ‘The Samajwadi Party is fighting and struggling against the BJP at every level in Uttar Pradesh. SP will defeat BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Everyone should support Samajwadi Party to rid UP and the country from BJP. The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said, “Regional parties are set to play a huge role in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and this will wipe out the BJP.”
He said in a statement that the SP has played its role responsibly in national politics and will continue to do so in the future.
Akhilesh, the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, said that the BJP is suppressing the opposition parties in the country by misusing government institutions. He said, ‘The way BJP is working, it is known to all and all this will have a far-reaching impact on the politics of the country.’
According to Navbharat Times, he added, ‘National parties should forget that regional parties are doing any harm to them. If there has ever been a loss to the regional parties, then the governments of Delhi have always harmed them. Today CBI, ED and Income Tax Department are targeting regional parties. Be it Netaji, Lalu Prasad Yadav ji, Jayalalithaa, be it Stalin, KCR, be it Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party. That’s why regional parties are not a threat to national parties, rather the situation has come that regional parties will compete with national parties.
According to the newspaper, the SP chief also said, ‘It is not our job to form an alliance. It is our job to cooperate with the alliance.
Yadav drew parallels between Gandhi’s disqualification and similar action against SP legislators in Uttar Pradesh since the BJP came to power in the state in 2017. He said that the state administration filed false cases against SP MLAs like Azam Khan and disqualified them from the assembly.
Earlier, Yadav had said on Friday (March 24) that Gandhi’s disqualification was a BJP strategy to divert people’s attention from issues like inflation, unemployment and ‘business friends’ who are draining India’s money.
Yadav said, ‘BJP has taken away the membership of many Samajwadi Party leaders in Uttar Pradesh. Today the membership of the biggest Congress leader has been taken away. If we see everything in this way, many BJP members will also be disqualified. If an unbiased inquiry is conducted, many members of the BJP will be disqualified for the kind of language and statements they make.
Yadav said, ‘Ever since the BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh, it first took the help of the administration and the government to file false cases and then on several occasions, both the administration and the government jointly took away the membership of SP leaders (Assembly). Took.’
He said that Azam Khan Sahab lost his membership and so did his son Abdullah. Similarly, cases were registered against sitting MLAs like Irfan Solanki in Kanpur.
It may be noted that Azam Khan was disqualified by a court in October 2022 after he was sentenced to three years in jail in a 2019 hate speech case. Abdullah Azam Khan was disqualified in February 2023, days after a court sentenced him to two years in prison in a 15-year-old case.
Meanwhile, UP Congress spokesperson Ashok Singh said, ‘Congress is constantly fighting the BJP across the country. Akhilesh Yadav ji is fighting only in UP. Akhilesh Yadav ji should also show big heart and support Congress. It is not the sole responsibility of the Congress to oust the BJP.
